It is tradition for students at The University of Oxford, to wear Carnations to all of their exams.

 

For the first exam wear white, pink is for every exam between and red for the last.

 

One explanation for this tradition is that initially a white carnation was kept in a red ink pot between exams, so by the last exam it was fully red.
